Boko Haram attacks College of Agriculture in Yobe, over 30 students killed

Boko Haram gunmen this morning Sunday September 29th stormed the student dormitory of the College of Agriculture in Gujba, Yobe State, shooting students as they slept, killing at least 30 of them. The death toll could be way higher as several dead bodies were recovered from hostels, classrooms, bushes and corners around the school.

Area Military spokesman Lazarus Eli confirmed the incident and said that security forces have been deployed to the school to protect surviving students until they can all leave the campus. Eli said the attack was carried out by “Boko Haram terrorists who went into the school and opened fire on students while they were sleeping"

A newly wedded woman whose husband had been patronizing a local prostitute, simply known as Amaka, was beaten and stripped naked by the prostitute for confronting and accusing her of sleeping with the husband and keeping him away from his matrimonial home. 

To her dismay, the prostitute confirmed the allegation and even boasted to the lady that she has been "servicing" her husband before he met and married her and that was not going to change anytime soon. This infuriated the woman causing her to attack the prostitute and fighting ensued. 

It was gathered that neighbours around were busy taking pictures rather than separate the ladies. The matter was later resolved at a nearby police station. The woman's husband was said to have denied the "allegation" ... as expected! 

PRISONER DIALS 911 TO REPORT ESCAPE OF FELLOW INMATES

Prisoner Joshua Silverman passed up a taste of freedom this week and called the police instead.
Silverman could have fled with two other inmates who stole the unattended transport van he was riding in, but he dialed 911 and alerted authorities about the escape.

"Uh, yes, ma'am, you're probably not going to believe this, but I'm a prisoner in a van, and I'm here with a couple of these other cats," Silverman politely explained to the 911 operator Tuesday. "A couple of the guys that were in the van jacked the van ... at the hospital."

Guards from a private prison transport company had stopped in Weatherford, about an hour west of Oklahoma City, to deliver some ill inmates to a hospital. They left eight other prisoners, including Silverman, in the van unsupervised.
With the guards gone, authorities say inmates Lester Burns and Michael Coleman kicked out a partition in the van and moved up front, where the keys remained and the motor was still running so the prisoners could have air conditioning.
Burns and Coleman drove the van for about a mile before ditching it and fleeing on foot, according to police.

Silverman, one of six inmates left behind, was reluctant to escape. Still shackled, he somehow managed to get out of the van — perhaps through the kicked-out partition — and dialed 911 with a cellphone police believe he might have found in the vehicle.
During the nearly four-minute audio clip that Weatherford police released Thursday, Silverman struggled to explain the van's whereabouts. After the dispatcher asked for a specific location, the prisoner volunteered to walk to a nearby road to flag down an officer.

"We're in Oklahoma somewhere. I don't know because we're not on a road and I'm not from here," Silverman told the dispatcher. "I just don't want to get shot by no cops or nothing."

The dispatcher asked Silverman where the rest of the prisoners were. Five other inmates remained besides him.
"We're all in the van," he said. "Two of the dudes took off. The dudes that were doing whatever they were doing took off."

Silverman remained on the phone until a patrolman arrived on the scene. "The cops are right here!" he told the dispatcher.

Governor Fashola and His ''Apology'' - by Femi Fani Kayode

The deportation of Igbos to Anambra state by the Lagos State Government a few months back was what sparked off all the Igbo/Yoruba bashing that happened online recently, most popular was the piece written by controversial former minister Femi Fani Kayode, which led to him being 'sued' by one prominent Igbo lady..:-). So anyway, yesterday governor Fashola apologized to the igbos for the incident...and FFK doesn't think he should have apologize. Read what he wrote below...

There can be little doubt that the relocation of the 19 igbo destitute from Lagos state a few months ago was a lawful exercise and that it was done in the interest of Lagos state. Consequently I do not believe that Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola ought to have tendered any form of apology whatsoever to the igbo for what he did. The only redeeming factor is the fact that the apology was obviously designed simply to calm frayed nerves and I commend Fashola for that gesture if nothing else. I say this because my understanding is that he apologised NOT for the deportation itself but for ''the misunderstanding that arose from it''. There is a world of difference between the two. I also commend him for admonishing the igbo to develop their own region and to decide whether they are ''igbo before they are Nigerians or Nigerians before they are igbo''. 

US report says Boko Haram may have anti-aircraft missiles

Not only has Boko Haram been linked to the group behind Kenyan mall attack al Shabaab, there are also reports that they may have anti-aircraft missiles. Hmmmm.

A report by a committee of  the United States House of Representatives has linked the  fundamentalist Islamist sect, Boko Haram to al Shabaab, the terror group that carried out the September 21 Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi, Kenya.

The  report dated September 13, 2013 and entitled, ‘Boko Haram: Growing Threat to the US Homeland’, also acknowledged the growing relationship between the Nigerian sect and another terror group, the Al Qaeda in the land of the Islamic Maghreb.

The  39-page report noted that “while there is no evidence that al Qaeda’s core in Afghanistan and Pakistan commands Boko Haram’s operations, it is clear from the words of multiple US officials and  media reports  that Boko Haram is supportive of, and supported by Al Qaeda networks such as AQIM.”

Famous Ghanaian poet, Kenyan president's nephew among those killed in mall attack

Ghanaian poet and diplomat Kofi Awoonor, (pictured left) was among the 59 killed during the attack on Westgate Mall in Kenya yesterday. He was in Nairobi as a participant in the Storymoja Hay Festival, a 4-day celebration of writing, thinking and storytelling. The Ghanaian govt confirmed his death early Sunday morning. He was 78 years old. His son was also shot, but was not killed.

Also the president's nephew, Mbugua and his fiance Wahito (both pictured right) were killed in the attack yesterday.

Over 1,000 people have so far been evacuated from the mall, but an unknown number of hostages are still trapped inside with the terrorists believed to be about 15. Kenyan security forces have been locked in a standoff with gunmen since yesterday. Gun shots have been heard all morning in the area.

Heavily armed Islamic extremists pulled up in several cars yesterday and shot their way into the most upmarket shopping centre in Nairobi, ordering Muslims out if they could prove their religion by reciting a prayer or answering a question on Islam. They started killing those who failed the test.

BBC reported that at least one of the attackers was a woman who had some kind of leadership role.

Somali militant group al Shabaab claims responsibility for Kenyan mall attack

Hours after gunmen stormed Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, killing over 20 people and injuring another 50, Somali militant group, al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack via their twitter page, HSM Press Office @HSM_Press. After quite a number of Tweets explaining their actions and threatening to carry out more attacks, Twitter suspended the account.

Gunmen storm Kenyan shopping mall, at least 22 people killed

Gunmen stormed a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya this afternoon Saturday September 21 killing at least 22 people in what could possibly be a terrorist attack. An eyewitness claimed the gunmen told Muslims to stand up and leave the mall and that only non-Muslims would be targeted. By the time they finished shooting indiscriminately, at least 22 were dead and at least 50 people injured.

One survivor said and that the attackers started from the Westage mall ground floor and made their way to the top. He said they had grenades and AK-47 rifles and he saw at least five of them. Local TV stations reported that the gunmen took hostages as soldiers and local policemen surrounded the mall. Another survivor said he was shot at by a man who looked like a Somali.

The Somali militant group al Shabaab had previously threatened to attack hotels, nightclubs and the Westgate mall, which is one of the biggest malls in the city, popular with the city's expatriate and foreigners...but there's no official confirmation for now that the group is behind this attack.

Security guards were seen wheeling out bloodstained bodies in shopping trolleys as soldiers continue to comb the mall looking for the gunmen. Kenyan Red Cross said at least 20 have been killed and more casualties were still inside the complex. See photos after the cut...

On Sunday 15th September,  Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda lit up the hearts of female prisoners at the Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos with an exhilarating charity visit which lasted several hours. 
Aside donating various items including food stuffs, cloths, under wears, toiletries, perfumes, provisions and the likes through her Arise Monalisa Foundation, the multiple award-winning actress took her time to interact and encourage the prison inmates who were overjoyed to receive her.

Undergraduates, others arrested for stealing N2bn from Union bank

According to a report by Punch, two men who claim to be undergraduates of University of Jos, Isaiah Friday and Azzaior Samuel, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission  for allegedly stealing N2.05bn from union bank Two bureau de change operators, Salihu Mahmoud and Dan Ibrahim, were also arrested in connection with the alleged crime.

The Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said:

"Their arrest comes on the heels of a petition which the commission received from Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Marina, Lagos, in January 2013, alleging that a criminal attack had been launched on its data base known as ‘Flexcube’, by yet-to-be-identified criminals who falsified the bank records and accounts and created unjustified huge opening balances in several accounts across the bank’s branches. They subsequently transferred funds from those accounts to several accounts in other banks. The petition, which was signed by one A.F Olufade, Head of Fraud Investigation at the bank, said cash withdrawals and electronic transfers totalling N2.05bn was involved in the scam.”

Oyo State Police Command has arrested a middle aged man for taking advantage of a beautiful damsel in the Oluyole area of Ibadan, the State capital. He was allegedly caught raping the girl in a bush. 

The bad guy was said to have lured the cute girl into the bush before forcefully having canal knowledge of her. While in the act, she was shouting for help and her cry drew the attention of her father. 

He rushed to the scene and caught the guy live on top his daughter. Confirming the incident, the statePolice Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, said: “The father of the victim, who reported the crime, said he heard his daughter screaming in a nearby bush and that when he rushed there, he saw the suspect on top of his daughter, having canal knowledge of the victim by force. 

“The father said he saw the suspect holding the girl by the neck.” 
The Oyo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa, had directed that the case be immediately charged to court to serve as a deterrent to other young men in the area.

Video surfaced yesterday showing Beyonce being pulled to the floor in the middle of a song at her show in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Beyonce was pulled by an over excited fan after she gave him a chance to sing - fortunately her bodyguard was standing nearby and rushed in to save her.

Late prophet Ajanaku's wife moves to rented apartment as his family fight over his assets

Joy Ajanaku, the wife of the late spiritual leader of Christ Victory Chapel International, prophet Ireti Ajanaku, who died August 18th (or 22nd), has been forced to move out of her matrimonial home into a rented apartment after her husband's family allegedly made life difficult for her after the prophet passed on. According to reliable sources, the ministry's board moved Joy Ajananku and her children out of her husband's Lagos home into a 3-bedroom flat in Abule Egba, Lagos after constant harassment from the prophet's family, who are insisting that Joy is not legally married to their son.

Joy and Ireti Ajanaku lived together for 7 years before finally formalizing their union with a court wedding in 2010 but the family insist that the wedding never took place...and want her removed as the man's next of kin. Family members are now fighting over his assets said to be worth millions of Naira. 

Despite having issue's her late husband's family, Joy Ajanaku is on great terms with members of the church her husband left behind. The ministry's board agreed to install her as their new leader and said the late prophet anointed her as the chosen one before his death. They also said they have a wedding certificate to prove that she was truly married to their late spiritual leader. Joy and some members of the church are getting ready to take late Ajanaku's family to court over his estate.
