A Bath ‘C ‘National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State, died in an auto crash while travelling to Lafia, the state capital, for his passing out parade.
This is as four female corps members were honoured with the FCT Honors Award for distinguishing themselves during their service year.
Daily Independent reliably gathered that the NYSC member (names withheld) boarded a vehicle from Karu local government council, with some of his colleagues, to Lafia, which shares boundaries with Abuja.
He was unable to make it as their vehicle was involved in a road crash in which he died, while his colleagues sustained various degrees of injures and were rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
The State Coordinator of NYSC, Olabanji, who confirmed the incident to Daily Independent on telephone, said the accident happened at Nasarawa Eggon local government council, although she could not give the name of the deceased. She quickly added that efforts are on top gear to contact the family of the deceased corper, before further details.
Some of the outgone corps members, who did not want their names in print, also recounted their experience while carrying out their service in the state, regretting the hardship and neglect they experienced in the hands of relevant authorities.
The porous security situation in the state was also of concern, as those whose place of primary assignment fell under the crises ravaged areas, thanked God for keeping them alive.
One of them, a female, who identified herself as Buki, lamented the attitude of the authorities, citing a nonchalant-attitude of the government to their plight while they were evacuated from areas affected by the crises, particularly those who fled from Obi Local Council and Assakio in Lafia East Development Area of the state.
